Harrie Lavreysen, two times gold
Professional track cyclist Harrie Lavreysen (24), six-time world champion and three-time European champion won gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer. He did everything he could to prepare as well as possible. The Sunshower, which he has now had for a few months, helped him.
Track cyclists often suffer from back ache. Cycling is a strength sport where the leg muscles develop more strongly than the upper body. Since I hit the track four times a week and the on the track and the weight room twice a week, it is vital to keep my back and muscles flexible and warm.'
A hot bath
So it is only logical that Harry, when he and his girlfriend moved in together last winter, they wanted a bath in the house they were renovating. Nothing better than a hot bath after exercise, he thought. Yet, no matter how the couple measured things, there was no room for a bath. 'I did some research and ended up at Sunshower. Although I was mainly interested in the infrared function, we opted for the combination with UV light because, well, sunshine in winter is an added bonus.´
Infrared, that's what Harrie was mainly interested in. He uses that button every day. Sometimes just to warm up before exercising, but I can usually be found under our rain shower after training. The rays boost my muscle recovery and I have less muscle pain after a hard workout. Incidentally, I'm not the only one in the house who is enthusiastic about infrared. My girlfriend likes using that button too.'
And then there's the UV-B light. Harrie's athletic body benefits from that as well. 'As a professional track cyclist I have to stay at my best. A good immune system is vital, to avoid getting 'flu for instance, so I make sure I get enough vitamin D. I eat a healthy diet, take vitamin supplements and enjoy absorbing the light of Sunshower. The fact that I produce pigment at the same time, which helps protect my skin against the summer sun, and that my pale skin, including my milk-bottle legs, gets a healthy complexion, is an added bonus.'
In short, Harrie has nothing but praise for Sunshower. 'I can recommend it to every athlete. Especially for impatient types, which I am not by the way, it is an asset. No waiting for the bath to fill up, it's all systems go at the push of a button.'
